Building a Garage Addition Cost Checklist When evaluating a garage addition cost estimate from a local contractor, make certain the estimate contains everything you want done. Here is a checklist of items you may want to consider:
- Are they going to “stick build” it (which means construct it onsite) or is it going to be a pre-packaged modular structure?
- Are they preparing or providing construction drawings (blueprints)?
- How do they plan on preparing the site for construction? Do they need to grade, fill, or compact the site?
- Are they going to do a soils test?
- What kind of foundation are they installing (concrete or aggregate).
- Are they going to be responsible for pulling permits?
- What type of garage door are they installing? Are they installing a garage door opener? If so, what kind?
- Will the garage have windows? If so, what kind (vinyl, wood)?
- What type and grade of roofing material are they installing?
- What type and grade of siding are they using (vinyl, wood, composite)?
- Will the interior be finished or unfinished?
- Are they installing any type of security system?
