Homeowners Find Alternative to Selling
By Randy Young
Homeowners, needing more space for their growing family are faced with a poor housing market and find it difficult, if not impossible, to sell their cramped homes.
When selling your home is not an option, what can be done to get the space you need now?
The solution? Work with what you have… and expand it. Home additions seem to be the trend and answer to the problem. In a recent survey of jobs done at Metro Architects, home additions were on a rise, with thirty requests in the past six months.
Is this really the solution? Home owners, who see the value of their homes dropping, seem to be taking advantage of the lower costs of construction and thumbing their noses at the “bad economy”. Just because home values are going down, doesn’t mean families are getting smaller and people have stopped living.
Contractors need work. When a home owner obtains three price quotes from reputable contractors, they reap the benefits.
An architect can be a vital friend to the home owner in many ways. An architect who listens to the needs of the home owner can create a plan which exceeds expectations. The architect can also assist the home owner in selecting a reputable contractor. Metro Architects works with over 50 local contractors and knows their strong points and which ones would be best for your project.
The housing bubble was caused by government meddling and speculators, buying and selling homes. It was a false value. The real way to raise the value of a home is to make it more valuable for the family inhabiting it. The more your home fits your needs the more valuable the home is to you. This is true home value.
